Two-week SUN course on Constitution-building in Africa successfully concludes

The Department of Legal Studies hosted for the second time a summer course on Constitution-building in Africa (link: http://www.summer.ceu.hu/constitution-2014) between June 30 and July 11, 2014 in the framework of CEU's SUN program, in cooperation with International IDEA and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. The course directors were Markus Böckenförde, Gedion Hessebon and Renata Uitz

Faculty included Yash Ghai and Jill Cottrell (through video link), as well as Christina Murray, Babacar Kante and Kwasi Prempeh. Tom Ginsburg attended the mid-course workshop alongside alumni from last year's summer course.

Participants included professionals from civil society organizations and InGOs, as well as PhD and post-doctoral researchers. The curriculum of the course covered recent developments in constituion-building in Anglophone and Francophone Africa, placing these developments in a broader comparative and theoretical perspectives.

Among the participants the course also welcomed two faculty members from CEU's partner universities in Myanmar, who visited CEU on a study trip, as part of the curriculum building efforts in the social sciences and humanities sponsored by the Open Society Foundations in Myanmar.
