Adam Bodnar elected as ombudsman for Poland

Dr Adam Bodnar (CCL '01) was elected by the Polish parliament as Human Rights Defender (ombudsman) for Poland on August 7, 2015 (https://www.rpo.gov.pl/en/content/new-human-rights-defender). He will be the seventh ombudsman, following in the footsteps of Judge Ewa Letowska whose leadership and critical voice still defines the institution.

Alumni success story - Yancy Cottrill

Yancy Cottrill recently accepted a position as a staff attorney for the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. The Congress of the FSM is located on the Island of Pohnpei, which is six degrees north of the equator.
He is the attorney for the Ways & Means Committee advising the Chairman Isaac Figir on legislation and other issues related to the nation’s budget.
Mr. Cottrill also drafts legislation, memorandum, and issues internal opinions on proposed bills. He staffs governmental oversight hearings providing legal advice to Senators as requested.

  Davor Babić (LEGS ’99) is an associate professor of private international law, arbitration and ADR at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Law, where he formerly also served as vice-dean. He studied law at the University of Zagreb (LL.B., Ph.D.), Asser Institute, the Hague (Asser College Europe) and at CEU (LL.M., IBL). He has published on a wide range of topics relating to private international law, arbitration, other forms of alternative dispute resolutions, and international investment law.

Disability Rights Victories of Janos Fiala-Butora, CEU Alumnus (LEGS '04) in the European Court of Human Rights

Janos Fiala-Butora (CEU LEGS ‘04) has several major victories to his name before the ECtHR in cases advancing the rights of people with mental disabilities. Janos appeared as a lawyer in the legal team of the Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC) representing the applicants. He was also instrumental in bringing the briefs of the Harvard Law School Project on Disability before the ECtHR in three of these landmark cases.

DALMA DEMETER (LEGS IBL alumna) recipient of several prestigious teaching awards in Australia

Dalma Demeter, a law academic at the University of Canberra's (UC) Faculty of Business, Government & Law since June 2010, has received an Australian national and two university-level teaching awards in 2012.

The prestigious national LexisNexis-ALTA Early Career Award for Excellence & Innovation in the Teaching of Law was commended by the Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA).
